KLG CO-SANCTIONED EVENTS -  Occasionally, KLG Barrel Racing will co-sanction with other productions. Meaning they will add a side pot onto their original race following the rules and regulations of KLG but using the one time run within their produced race.

– Only the finale event will be mandatory western wear. However, we anticipate having a photographer at each of our events – western wear makes for a great pic!

Qualifier events – If you need to scratch your entry, you MUST do so prior to the race beginning. You can do so by texting 403.466.4450. Should you pre-enter and just not show (without scratching prior to the race beginning) you will be blacklisted from all future KLG Barrel Racing events. To remove your name from the “blacklist” you must pay a $50 fine.

Finale race – Entries are only refundable with Vet OR Doctor’s note, however, there will be a $50 administration fee held back. A $50 fine will be charged for any NSF cheques.

Time onlies will be reserved/sold on a first come, first serve basis @ $5.00 per minute.

Please be ready when it's your turn! Should you be called and not respond within a reasonable amount of time, you will forfeit your turn and refunds will not be given. IMPORTANT!! Should you run over your allotted time slot, you will be fined $5.00. Please be sure to purchase a sufficient number of time onlies to ensure we stay on schedule and do not hand out any fines.

Only one rider in the arena at a time (with the exception of a peewee rider).

Barrel work is a time that allows riders to work the barrels in a training capacity, exposing both horse and rider to the arena in a non-pressured environment. There are various riders allowed in the arena at one time, similar to a warm up or open riding, but with the pattern set up (not on the official pattern markers). This is a non-supervised activity, with no one working the gate – common courtesy rules will apply and you are riding at your own risk. Below are some guidelines that we kindly ask that you adhere to during this open riding/ barrel work time.

  1. Please line up for your turn to work the pattern.
  2. Please wait till the first person has circled the second barrel before beginning your pattern and give right of way to the person before you.
  3. If you are riding inside the arena, please give right of way to the person working the pattern.
  4. If the arena is getting too full, please give priority to those working the pattern.
  5. Please be courteous to those waiting for their turn – do not take more than 30-45 seconds each pattern.
  6. If complaints are made about any individual not being completely gracious, they will asked to leave the arena and refunds will NOT be given.

We like to rake every 5 with a big rake after 50 runs – changes may be made depending on what is best for the ground.

Class format is Peewee, Youth, then Open.

Open: Generally 17 years of age and older, however, it is open to all contestants

Youth: 16 years of age and younger - youth may also roll their time into the open.

Peewee: 8 years of age and younger (please note it is mandatory for peewees to wear a helmet)

Open: 7/10 split

Youth: 1 second split

Peewee: 5 second split (used as a guideline only – every peewee wins payouts)

Knocked barrel: +5

Off patter: No Time

Prizes and payouts must be picked up (or arrangements made) within 3 months of the date won. If they haven’t been picked up within that time, they will be forfeited. Please contact Kristy Maxwell to make arrangements for us to get your winnings to you. We can mail a cheque or interact email, however, there will be a $5.00 administrative fee.

Payouts split equality between each division:

# of entries                 Spots paid                     % each spot

10 & Under                         1                                    100

11 – 20                                2                                  60 – 40

21 – 30                                3                              45 – 35 – 20

31 – 40                                4                          40 – 30 – 20 – 10

41 – 50                                5                      34 – 26 – 18 – 14 – 8

51 – 150                              6                   29 –  24 – 19 – 14 – 9 – 5

151 – 249                            7                25 – 22 – 17 – 14 – 10 – 7 – 5

250+                                    8             23 – 20 – 17 – 14 – 11 – 8 – 5 – 2

  • 79 entries or less will be a 3D
  • 80+ entries will be a 4D

* Youth and Peewee classes will remain 3D at all times.

PEE WEE PAYOUTS ARE CALCULATED DIFFERENTLY - all payouts are divided equally between each peewee - guaranteed paycheck!

* If only one horse places in a division, that horse shall receive the entire payout for that division. If NO horses fall into any one particular division, the payout for that division will be divided equally between the remaining divisions. Times that do not fall within a division will not receive payouts.

For example using a 1 second split in a 3D race:

  • 2D 17.00
  • 2D 17.10
  • 2D 17.20
  • 2D 17.30
  • 2D 17.40

1- 3D 18.00

2- 3D 18.10

3- 3D 18.20

Though the next closest time may be 19.01 this time is NOT within the 3D and will not receive a cheque. Therefore, the money for the 4th and 5th placings within the 3D would then be split between the 1st, 2nd and 3rd placings.

Percent of payouts (meaning the percentage of the entry fee that goes toward payouts) may differ between each event, due to various arenas used and other business expenses. If you would like to know more detailed information on a particular event, please ask us directly.

If a tie occurs where monies are involved, the monies will be divided equally.

Most prizes at our finale event are determined by the runs during the Calgary event itself (using the fastest time of two runs) - however to qualify to run for these prizes, you must participate within a minimum of one qualifier event. There are also series prizes for those who participate within multiple qualifier events!

It is very important that you are a member of the KLG Barrel Racing Facebook group, as we will be posting regular communications (draw/updates/results) prior, during and following the event.

Note: There are two versions of the document – one is for those under age of majority.

We are always looking for new volunteers to help out and are in need of folks to help set-up barrels and work the gate – please let us know if you are able to assist.  We schedule volunteers on a first come, first serve basis.
